I was planning on stacking the tree trunk with pieces of stained glass laying flat against each other. I started with some silly putty in order to play with how I would stack the pieces to get the effect I was after. I then realized that silly putty was not a great idea...the silly putty slumps and the pieces started to fall over. Although, seeing how the pieces fell to one side did give me a new idea of how I would construct the tree trunk.
Setting Up the Glass
After getting silly putty stuck on my pieces of glass and the pieces falling all over without control, I realized it would be much easier to just tape them on the glass to see how I wanted to set them up.
I was happy with the final effect of the stacking of glass. This was a happy accident and did really give much more texture and depth than if I stacked the glass straight against each other.
I added pebbles and moss agate for additional texture and interest (plus to feel more like the trees on the West Coast)
This piece sold at the Sooke Fine Art show in 2014.
